Our Ancestors

"Nuestros Ancestros" is a poignant installation by Jaime Belkind-Gerson, inspired by his wife's genealogical research. The work, conceived as a memorial to their relatives lost during the Holocaust, utilizes photographs of their ancestors. Jaime transferred these images onto stones using an emulsion technique, placing them on a mirror of water. By placing these stones on water, the installation creates reflections that merge the faces of the departed with those of the viewers, symbolizing a connection between the living and the dead.

This work aligns with the tradition of using art to heal collective trauma, reminiscent of movements like Argentina's "El Siluetazo" and Peru's "Lava la Bandera," which honored the disappeared during political regimes.
